Newbottle Pig Farm and Stanford House

Si Hi lads,

Just a quick post with a video of just some of what I’ve been up to these past few weeks :boogie: .

I’ve used my springers for 99% of the hunting sessions and done quite well I think, but twice I have cracked and taken my little girl out for a shooting (my r10) LOL :icon_redface: .

Some of the video is quite dark due to being late at night and ratting :censored: but you can make out what’s going on easy enough.

Special thanks to Mark Vinning (Manager Newbottle Pig Farm) and a good mate  .

Davyt63 and Chaz for inviting me and Sergej to Stanford House to shoot some bunnies, we had a great time lads and really enjoyed it  .

The photos are from this week with my best mate Sergej.

We went out ratting last night and ended up shooting 25 rats, retrieving 14 with the rest dying quickly behind walls and farm machinery :whistling: .

I only got 5 of the 25 with my r10 from a static location, 3 on video and 2 off camera with Mark and his NV rifle scope and HW97K hammering the rest in total darkness without the rats knowing what happened to them (Its a brilliant scope).

Davy and Alex are coming up tonight so hopefully we will get even more :gunsmilie:

Cheers lads.

That was a mixture of my Weihrauch HW95K and my r10 shooting them rats Tris, more my HW95L though, both times the pellets were .22 calibre AA Fields.

Yes the HW95K is a brilliant rifle mate if shot correctly and is well under estimated by people as a serious hunting rifle.

Last night Mark was using RWS Super Hollow Points and they were almost taking part of the rats head off in a oner.

There was one of the big ones he shot that we had to turn it the other way around to take the picture as half its head was missing.

Its more to do with the shot placement though on them rats mate, as if you do a body shot (BY MISTAKE) for the ballistic lawyers that vacate this section from time to time, the rat dies but makes it about 2 or 3 metres before it dies.

The head shot kill it almost instantanious though as you seen buddy.

good pics there

thats some shooting, ive killed my share of rats and sometimes their heads are left in a mess but i cant recall a time when ive shot half a big rats head off.the next time you do it can you pm me a picture even if you dont want to put it on the net for obvious reasons as thats the kind of pellet i want to be using.myself and half and half use AA diabolo fields but we arent doing that amount of damage though we still get quick kills most of the time.

on another note my tally for last year says i killed 798 rats with a gun or the dogs.i must have shot at least another 200 rats on top of that which couldnt be found.sometimes you know you hit it in the head but for me its no body,no kill........that goes for any hunting i do.id be interested to hear if others are the same or if they would count a rat they feel they hit in a kill zone.

Hi Pointer,

If mark does it again tonight ill send you the picture buddy.

No mate with rats if i defo know i hit it in the kill zone and it falls behind something like a double wall and i cant retreive it i still class it as a kill.

thanks for that,i like the pellets i use but would experiment with something new if i thought it would cause more damage whilst retaining accuracy.

ill count a rat if i can see it lying dead but cant get it out and ill count the ones that were seen clearly very dead but have been dragged away by other rats but i dont count those that i cant confirm as dead no matter if im confident its been hit.its just how i do it,i admit im a bit weird over things like that and a good nights shooting for me can be soured by a bad body count at the end.thinking ive shot a dozen rats and only putting half that on the tally later winds me up :D:D:D but thats how ive always done it since i started keeping count in 2005.

Hiya Si.

More brilliant footage there, and some fine shooting too

Cant stand Rat's

Shame the old Crow's didnt come in for the bait, that dung heap would have made some great shooting and footage.

Wonder if they spotted you putting the dead one up?.......clever little buckers they be.

SP for some great footage, and excellent shooting. :)

Bill.
